Mittens In May

This past winter, we had a bit of a problem with Loreli's mittens.  The cuffs were too short and snow kept creeping up her jacket sleeves while sledding & making snowmen.  I had promised her way back then that I would make her new mittens but....well, I just didn't.  So getting ahead of the game for next year, I cast on for some mittens in May!

Pattern: Classic Mittens

What an excellent pattern!  There are 5 size options and I can see myself referring to this pattern repeatedly as Loreli grows.

I nicknamed these "Scrappy Mittens" because they were made of almost all scraps I had laying around.  Loreli's were made of Knit Picks Swish Worsted in Sugar Plum and Caron Simply Soft in White and Heather Gray.  I love how these turned out!

More scraps, for mine I used Vanna's Choice Bright Pink and Black.  These feel a little on the scratchy side, but I think they'll be great on cold winter days.  I think I'll make the cuffs a tad longer for myself the next time I use this pattern though.

Mini Disney Vacation Recap

We're back from our getaway!  We had a fabulous time there, even though we didn't go to any of the Disney parks.  Instead, we spent our time at the pool, Downtown Disney and the Boardwalk.  **Warning, this is a very picture-heavy post.  I had a hard time eliminating photos!**

The Contemporary Resort and Disney World
We were really lucky to stay at the Contemporary Resort.  What a wonderful location, right next to Magic Kingdom.  When we checked in, we were asked if we were celebrating anything and when we told them it was our anniversary, they upgraded us to a room with a view of Cinderella's Castle!  What a beautiful view to wake up to!

And at night, there was no need to run up to the roof to watch the fireworks -- we just sat on the balcony to watch the show.

Cinderella's Castle at night
I've never been to Downtown Disney and let me tell you, it was love at first sight!  The bus dropped us off right in front of Disney's Days of Christmas store.  Fate?  Absolutely!

We also stopped in Once Upon a Toy, saying hello to Mr. Potato Head on our way in...
Posing with Mr. Spud himself
...and the Lego Imagination Center.  Many ridiculously awesome Lego designs!

All said and done, it was a great time, just a little short.  We're crossing our fingers that Shane's work conference will be held yet again at a Disney Resort and we can bring Loreli to meet Mickey & Minnie.  =)
